Transformers is a quintessential movie-licensed game. Despite its popularity amongst gaming enthusiasts, it inherits a few problems of the genre, including short length, unclear story, and simplistic mechanics.

The game is designed primarily for those who want to have a lot of fun by playing with the characters of live-action films. Moreover, gaming lovers who want to awkwardly beat up Autobots in many semi-destructible environments will find this game exciting. If that’s all you want in any game, Transformers can offer you massive entertainment opportunities.

Conversely, if you expect something more than just entertainment, Transformers might not be a great fit for you.

Developers of the game gain motivation from the Transformers movie, which represents the fight between good and evil robots over the artifacts known as the AllSpark. The AllSpark is a source of life for all the transformers that justifies the tussle between them.

In this game story, Sam Witwicky is an average teenager with the key to AllSpark. For this purpose, there is a race on both sides to find Sam and get the keys to AllSpark. Of course, there will be much more in an actual movie plot; otherwise, peoples find this film irritating and boring.

Except for a few dialogue exchanges between Sam and the transformers, there is almost no concrete story that helps the game move forward.

What’s more interesting about Transformers is that it divides the game into two major campaigns and players can select their preferred campaign. In the Autobots campaign, you’ll replicate the character of Optimus Prime, who is looking for AllSpark in a bid to protect Sam and the rest of humanity from evil robots.

Conversely, in the deception campaign, you’ll be playing the role of Megatron, Starscream, and Barricade. Your goal is to hunt AllSpark and kill Autorobots. While the opportunity to play both from good and evil sides might sound appealing to you, you won’t find any noticeable difference between the two campaigns.

Irrespective of the side you prefer, you are required to complete a multitude of different missions where you have to fight with an easy-to-kill grunt transformer using the same three-hit combo technique. Besides, you have to run through the game’s few and open-ended environments to chase one Autobot leveraging the same three-hit combo alongside an occasional throw attack.

These missions turned out to be more entertaining than your perception because combat activities require more involvement from the player. You just need to mesh on the melee button to kill the enemies and a few times, players can contain the enemies by throwing random objects available at their disposal.

Since you are a transformer in the game, you can adopt the shape of your preferred vehicles; however, driving cars is less entertaining than running around as robots because cars tend to mess up with an environmental object, so you’ll end up with a pathetic experience.

The long bright spot indicates Deception campaigns. In some missions, you might be tasked to displace waste from one place to another. That place can be a humungous military complex because that is fun to destroy with weapons.

Additionally, your weapons can wreak havoc to the building, cars, trees, or any other nearby object. In the Autobots campaign, you can create the same destructions; however, those devastations will be accidental, not a deliberate attempt, because your goal is to protect humanity from evil actors.

In the deception campaign, you are tasked to create as much chaos as possible, so you’ll have immense pleasure. What’s more interesting in the game is the way in which devastations are displayed to the gamer(s) and apparent damage to the buildings seems massive and chaotic, which demands a serious combat strategy from the player.

Watching Optimus running around with a double-fisting pistol in his hand and using helicopter blades to behead the enemies looks fantastic. A fraction of these dramatic scenes emanate from aesthetically appealing animations, and it indicates Transformer models are comprehensive in nature.

While playing this game, you’ll be amazed to see that whatever changes you are expecting in the design of the new robot in the Transformers movie are all presented in the game.

The mass destruction effect is further expanded by the game’s camera, which keeps rotating during battles in order to focus on each object in the scenario. Unfortunately, the shaky-cam effects do more harm than good because the proactive camera movement makes the explosions and gunfire scenes indistinguishable for a few moments.

Furthermore, while playing the game, you might be surrounded by multiple enemies, but the camera cannot adjust its direction correspondingly.

Likewise, Transformers heavily relies on artificial ‘action zones’, a replica of the movie environment you can’t avoid while on the battlefield. If you somehow manage to escape these zones, you’ll fail the missions miserably. Therefore, if your enemies keep throwing you out of the zones, you will never complete the assigned mission.

Although you won’t experience the same issue frequently, a few missions are deliberately designed to be frustrating in order to engage you in a particular zone for a prolonged period.

Don’t worry! You don’t have to deal with such irritating zones too frequently. Each game’s campaign is a few minutes long, so an entire game can’t exceed five to six hours.

To make your gaming experience fascinating, Transformers offers a host of side missions in each game area and some unlockable content, including film clips and photo sets.
